Here, at K. K. Nag Pvt. Annually, we process approximately 4,500 tonnes of EPS from our 4 factories, making us one of the largest EPS shape moulders in India. Our units are spread across the country in Maharashtra (Urse and Ranjangaon), Tamil Nadu (Thiruvallur) and Puducherry and we have more than 50 machines that range from 400×600 mm to 1300×1700 mm in platen size.  We are proud to say that we are reputed to be the most technically progressive and competent EPS processor in India.

Everything, from conceptualisation to the final product, is handled by our expert in-house team.  This includes prototyping and design, development and manufacture of EPS moulds and the moulded parts.

We were the first EPS processor in India to receive ISO 9001:2000 certification and have since been certified for ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, BS OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO/TS 16949:2009. K. K. Applications of EPS

Expanded Polystyrene India

EPS is one of the most cost-effective protective packaging materials available and is used all over the world to protect goods from transit damage.  It possesses an extraordinary combination of lightness, rigidity and shock absorption and can be moulded to virtually any shape desired.

EPS is also used widely for low temperature thermal insulation because of its low thermal conductivity and closed cell structure (most other thermal insulation materials have open cell structures which make them vulnerable to moisture penetration).  Because EPS has no taste or odour and does not harbour fungi, it is used extensively in the packaging of pharmaceutical products, such as vaccines, where stringent temperature ranges are required to be maintained.

EPS is also used to make internal components for the air-conditioning and refrigeration industries.  Earlier, these parts were made by gluing insulation materials on to a metal sheet but they have been now replaced by EPS because it possesses both rigidity and the required insulation properties, and can be moulded in one piece.

EPS is now widely used for the packaging of agricultural products in India and various countries.  Fruits such as grapes, pomegranates, papayas, mangoes and many others, and various types of vegetables, are conveniently packed and stored in EPS containers.  Even in the marine industry, EPS boxes are used extensively to stock fish and other seafood.

Another useful application of EPS is in construction.  Its high thermal insulation makes it an excellent material to use in the construction of walls and ceilings and its high sound absorption makes it the ideal choice for sound-proofing.

Another recent application of EPS is as “Geofoam” in landfills.  This application is made possible because of EPS’s light weight, water resistance, dimensional stability and inert nature.

K. K. Nag Pvt. Ltd caters to customers from various sectors that include exhibition solution providers, children’s park equipment and the automotive industry. Our proprietary products are exported world-wide to international aid agencies like Oxfam, UNICEF, MSF, ACF and ICRC. We also have our own brand of rotomoulded tanks.  We have a 4-arm rotomoulding machine with a gas-fired burner and a swing diameter of 2200 mm. We also have a facility for PU foaming with soft and hard foam.

Rotational Moulding is a 3-stage process

Polymer powder is manually loaded into the mould which is then closed and shifted to the heating oven. Here, the mould is heated using forced hot-air circulation. While being heated, the mould is rotated in two perpendicular axes simultaneously. The polymer then melts and forms a homogenous layer within the mould. The mould is then shifted to a cooling station where forced air is used to cool it. Finally, the mould is opened and the moulding is removed. Unlike injection and blow moulding, rotomoulding does not involve high pressure; hence, products are stress-free and the walls are of uniform thickness.

EPP is a closed cell foam, which is flexible and lightweight. Its high energy absorbent properties combined with characteristic lightness make it a vital material in various industries. It also has a high capacity of energy absorption which is unchangeable after multiple impact loading and repetitive shocks, and recovers remarkably after dynamic and static loading. EPP’s distinct properties of high sound absorption, low water absorption and excellent chemical resistance have further fuelled its use in various fields. High thermal resistance allows EPP to provide optimum heat insulation. EPP does not support microbial growth and can be made sterile with steam cleaning, making it appropriate for use in containers for food and beverages. However, the most distinctive features of EPP are its ecological properties. An environmentally-friendly product, it can be recycled easily and is 100% non-toxic, containing no CFC or any other blowing agents.

Applications of EPP in the Auto Industry

EPP is widely utilised by automotive manufacturers because of its performance benefits for energy management, lightweight, enhanced functionality, durability and recyclability.  These properties make EPP an ideal choice for the automotive industry to manufacture various parts such as bumper systems, battery covers, sun visors, head rests, seats, door panels and side impact protection panels.

Other Applications of EPP

EPP is durable, lightweight, and recyclable. It is resistant to water, chemicals, and most oils and can withstand multiple impacts without significant damage, making its applications almost limitless. Reusable industrial packaging, known as dunnage, is frequently made from EPP due to its durability and its inherent ability to absorb energy in transit. EPP’s thermal insulation properties and structural strength make it ideal for packaging and transporting hot/cold food and beverages. This property also makes it useful in the production of heat exchanger parts. EPP’s ability to absorb impact makes it the perfect choice as packaging for computers, printers, peripherals and as protection corners for various cubic articles. It is even used extensively in the manufacture of computer housings. The defense industry uses EPP extensively as a reusable packaging for various items in India and various countries.

 

The new PREPS transportation pallets from K. K. Nag Pvt. Ltd have several advantages. They are strong and light, weighing in at just 5.5 kg as opposed to equivalent wooden pallets that weigh 20 kg.  When used during air shipment, the lightness of the pallets reduce shipment weight by 14.5 kg, thus greatly reducing costs. The outer lining of the PREPS pallets is tough, sanitary, non-porous and non-absorbent. They are completely washable, making their surface free of infestation by rodents, insects, disease, mould and mildew. In addition, they are also easily shrink-wrapped. The special grooves at the bottom prevent the strapping from moving sideways. The strapping in itself is simple and easy with its convenient open leg design.

Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance (ESCR) is the most important property for long and trouble-free life of industrial containers.
